Yarn Along

A tiny tea leaves for Tadhg. I'm using some wool that we reclaimed from a couple of cardis that I knit for the girls two years ago that weren't getting worn. This is how my Grandma would have done it, live it frugal and recycle.

We are joining in the read aloud along over here and reading The Rats of NIMH. When I say we I mean, I am reading the book aloud to the kids. We are getting through it quite slowly and I cant help thinking most of it must be going over their heads. I cant seem to manage more than one chapter a night, I'm just so exhausted by bedtime! They seem to be following the general story and eager to hear more, so I'll keep going. I'm definitely enjoying it. I never got to read this one as a kid.

Yarn Along

My brain is overflowing with things I need to knit. It seems like I can't sit still until I've got at least 6 different things cast on the pins. And Dubhessa has been bitten by the knitting bug this winter too. Shes been able to knit since she was three and a half (crikey, what was I thinking!) but since they started knitting in school this term shes developed a passion for it. I got the 'just wait till I've finished this row' line a few times this evening. That's my line! I'll be looking for a few easy patterns for her over the next few days, as shes over knitting headbands and scarfs! Any recommendations for a 7 year old?

This is a little children's cowl for my shop. Its Malabrigo worsted, of course in a divine pink red colour combo.

And I've added the dolls jumper pattern from last time to my free ravelry downloads. Take a squizz if you're intersted in dolls and dressing them.

I'm off to knitting group where I'll hopefully make some headway into a Tiny Tea leaves.  Its a good knitting group project, not too much concentrating required.

Yarn Along

I'm feeling a little calmer with my knitting load this week even though it seems to have increased. How did that happen? Last night I knit a wee jumper for Osgars doll, which is a gift for his birthday on Friday. Needs to be sewn up, but I'll be done in time. Yea.  I couldn't find a pattern for a good doll jumper  anywhere so I made this one up.  Lots of doll cardigans out there though.  If it looks ok when its finished I'll share the pattern.

The wool I've been waiting on for Troys hat finally arrived this week.  Its Malabrigo Chunky and its lush.  The depth of colour these guys achieve  really is amazing.  I got Cypress, which looked black when I ordered it, but its the darkest of greens, beautiful. Its the first time Troy's ever let me knit him something.  His childhood memories of hand-knits are not good,  so,  it has to be the best, most comfortable, sexiest hat ever.  I'm desperate for approval!

I finished my market bag - yea!  I'm still reading Second Chance Mother and we've also joined in with Annies Read Aloud Along.   We started Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH last night.

What about you.  Does your other half let you knit for them? Are you reading The Rats of NIMH?

The satisfying feeling . .

There is a very satisfying feeling when something makes it of my worktable and into its new home, even if its still only 90% finished.  I think this rug will remain at 90% for a while until I finally get sick of the sticking out ends. I also need to sew some non slip backing on to it so it stops sliding around on the floor.

Its on the floor of the kids room.  We have bunk beds on either side and this rug fits perfectly between them. Yes all four of kiddos in the same room.  Its very squeezy!  I decided on a rainbow of colours in the end for this rug.  I didn't know how it would turn out when I started as I only had the yellows and oranges. in scrap fabric and sheets.   I loved the way that every colour I added changed the look so dramatically.  I think it turned out exactly as it should have.

There is a  rainbow painted on one wall of the room and the other walls are painted blue like the sky with white clouds around the edges.  And of course there are their rainbow quilts.  I'm going to start calling it the rainbow room. I love the way the winter light came into this room in the afternoon on Thursday when I took these photos and the bare branches of the plum tree outside our house made shadows on the floor. Sunny crisp winters days really are to be treasured.
