Yarn Along

I put my head down this week, I pushed all ideas and thoughts of other projects to the back of my mind (especially those of hats).  Apart from one wee order for my shop all I've knitted is my Whisper.  And its paid off 'cause I'm only about 10 rows of stocking stitch away from casting off.  I got a couple of rows in this morning in the almost Spring sunshine on the grass.  I'm sure I'll be casting it off tonight . . . and maybe wearing it tomorrow!  Its pretty exciting.

I ran into a problem that I guess you come across when knitting cardigans with sock wool.  Serious colour pooling in the long flat sections. I've been alternating between two balls and I had some rows where I was breaking the yarn three times a row in attempts to stop the pooling.  In the end I've given up . . . and I think it will look fine.

We're into the home stretch of The Secret Garden.  If you have any good recommendations for chapter books to read to the kids when we are finished I'd love to hear them.  Osgar is 4, Tadhg is 5 and Dubhessa is 7.

Yarn Along

T'was a frustrating knitting week for me. I didn't make it to knitting group. I knit my pixie hat about three times, and I'm still not happy with it. Shes wearing it and she thinks it great, but ... its not.  I know I should have ditched the pattern when my second try didn't work.  Usually its my fault when things don't work, but this time I'm going to blame the pattern. I've still got half the yarn left so I'm going use it to invent my own pixie hat, then frog the one shes wearing.

My boy, well the first time he wore his new hat he left it at his cousins place. It was a week before he got it back. He lost it the following day.  The boy needs a hat, but really I'm in no mood to be knitting any more hats!

In between this and working on a little order for my shop, I think I knit a total of three rows of my whisper. . . . sob sob. Its looking at me across the room right now saying 'finish me ...'

We're half way through 'The Secret Garden'.  Its book day today at school today.  This is Milly Molly Mandy and Silky before they went off this morning. I'm still trying to decide whether dress-up day is fun or stressful.  I spent the whole morning yestreday finding paper flowers for a  garland and face glitter.  She's wearing the garland, but she'd wiped the glitter off before we got to school.  Fingers crossed they are having a good time.

Yarn Along

I'm off to my knitting group tonight were I am itching to knit and knit and get my Whisper finished.  I tried it on the other night for the first time (just love how you can do that with these cardis that are knit in one piece) and I'm so yearning to get it finished now so I can wear it!

I whizzed through the short rows after watching Cat Bhordi's you-tube video.  I've used her videos in the past.  I watch them with the volume down and I've found them really helpful.  So now on to the last part.  Rows and rows of stocking stitch.  Easy peasy.

A couple of skeins of Malabrigo worsted arrived yesterday, one for a pixie hat for Tadhg.  Shes nearly 6 and I think she actually might be a pixie when she grow up. She said "it needs to be really pointy and be able to tie under the chin".  And a blue one for Dubhessa to knit herself a shrug.  I'm thinking of a simple pattern in one piece knit in the round to the armpit then flat across the back.  I trawled Ravery last night but couldn't find a good pattern, so we may have to wing it.

We are reading  still The Secret Garden.

Yarn Along

It's cold and miserable and rainy outside, so I've found my most colorful project bag and taken a photo on the most colorful rug in the house and am refusing to look out the window.  I will have to go out there eventually to get the girls from school, but I'm trying not to think about that now. Right now, Sadhbh is having her nap, Osgar has fallen asleep on the couch, the bread is rising in the kitchen and I've got a hot cuppa tea.

I'm still tipping away on my Whisper.  I'm up to the short rows, need to prepare myself for those.  I read somewhere that Cat Bordhi has a good video tutorial. The ones that I've done on soakers in the past have always been quite obvious, I'd like to try to make these as invisible as possible. I used an I-cord bind off on the collar, it looks fab. I love learning a new trick.

I cast on a hat for Osgar yesterday. He seems to have lost his last one somewhere and I can't help feeling anything but happy to have to knit him a new one . . . I haven't  even really looked that hard for it. I'm using the same Man Hat pattern and Malabrigo Worsted.

I'm reading the kids The Secret Garden. They are enjoying the story, but I think they are getting the biggest kick out of my Yorkshire accent. Osgar keeps saying "mum, how can you talk like that!"
It's quite fun actually.
