When I started knitting this a few days ago I was feeling like I was in waaaay over my head. But I persevered and now I'm feeling pretty confident. Its the laciest thing I've ever tried and the chart for this one is so daunting, but the finished result is stunning. It's a
Semele lace shawl for a 60th birthday present at the end of the year. I splashed out and invested in some Silkmaiden Sea Silk. It's silky soft, but a little fluffier than I imagined. Oh and I ditched the chart in favour of the written instructions.
This is a one row at a time, take deep breaths and do not, for heavens sake interrupt me knit!
Still reading the Mysteries collection for the girls.
Happy Knitting!
What beautiful, delicate yarn.
ReplyDeleteGood for you in not giving up and keeping at it Dee, you are going to have a beautiful gift to give when it is finished.
ReplyDeleteYou picked out some gorgous yarn to use and I hope when you finish you will post photos.
Oh my goodness that is gorgeous!!! I love the lacy leafy stuff at the edges. Your gift receiver is going to LOVE it :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that is a stunning shawl and the recipient is a very lucky gal! Now take a deep breath and knit on. ;-)
ReplyDeleteyou must post a photo when you get it all finished. the yarn looks lovely. i hope whom ever you are knitting it for loves it!
ReplyDeletei have wanted to try that yarn, is the fluff in the way of knitting? i imagine it to have a lovely halo when it's all done. i'm sorry the chart is giving you trouble, sometimes they are just not very clear. i learned a good tip where you can just regraph it yourself, using symbols that make better sense to you.
ReplyDeletethe shawl is going to be a treasure when it's done!
Hi Lori, no I wouldn't say the fluff is in the way of the knitting, but I can easily pull strands of fiber out of it. I'm just worried its going to pill and get in the way of the lace eventually. I was expecting it to be silky smooth. It is only 70% silk the rest is Sea Cell. There is a great review here :http://www.knittersreview.com/article_yarn.asp?article=/review/product/061005_a.asp
DeleteI did read this before I bought it, but like with any yarn you buy online (you can't get this stuff over here in Australia) you don't really know what you are going to get until it arrives!
